Blackburn and Burnley are both former mill towns, with a rich history of the textile industry dating back to the 13th Century. Blackburn however is now more famous for its premiership football club, Blackburn Rovers, than for its cotton! Both towns have busy shopping centres and markets. Blackburn's other attractions include the cathedral, museum and art gallery, and the Ice Arena, home of the Blackburn Hawks ice hockey team.
Lancashire also boasts fantastic countryside. The beautiful area of the Ribble Valley and the Trough of Bowland is only a short drive from the hospital and is well worth a visit. Slightly further afield the Lake District, with its stunning scenery and many tourist attractions, is also easily accessible by car or public transport.
You can find out more about what Lancashire has to offer by visiting www.visitlancashire.com, the official website of Lancashire and Blackpool Tourist Board. You can also visit the local amenities page of this website to see what is on offer near to the hospital and in the surrounding area.
