Elective Placements (UK or overseas)

We are always pleased to receive enquiries from students, either from elsewhere in the UK or from abroad, regarding elective placements here at Royal Blackburn and Burnley General Hospitals. The Department of Undergraduate Education has an excellent reputation for student teaching and we therefore receive a large number of requests for placements. There is the possibility to arrange attachments across the whole range of specialties if that is what is required.

However, we do have a large number of students from the University of Manchester here at the hospital throughout the year and unfortunately this limits the number of elective placements that we can accept. We therefore have instituted a formal application process to which all applicants must adhere.

Click on the link for details of the application process. Please note the following:

  • Priority for elective placements will be given to students with specific links to East Lancashire
  • Electives cannot be provided free of charge for overseas students, and charges may be made both for the placement itself and for accommodation, if this is required (see section on Fees)

If you have any queries about what placements might be available or any other aspect of electives then you are welcome to contact the Electives Tutor, Dr Jenny MacDowall.
